Bristol to Amsterdam Cycle 2027

Itinerary

Day 1: Bristol to Oxford

We will gather at St Peter's Hospice for event registration and a safety briefing, where our team will cheer and wave you off on your journey! We commence cycling following alongside the M4 through the Cotswolds AONB, uphill through the village of Hinton. From Hinton we begin to head downhill again before reaching Nettleton and heading in a more northerly direction across the M4 for our first water stop. Our route continues through undulating English countryside past Malmesbury and Purton to our lunch stop on the outskirts of Swindon. Our afternoon's cycling continues with the same undulations and now familiar English countryside as we make our approach to Oxford to our first night's hotel. Cycling distance – approx. 75 miles.

Day 2: Oxford to Bishops Stortford

Today's cycle takes us due east as we make our way towards Bishops Stortford. There is more undulation as we pass through the Chiltern Hills AONB. From Oxford we head toward Thame and Princes Risborough where we will have our first stop of the day and from here we head to lunch on the outskirts of St Albans. Our afternoon's cycling follows the same picturesque English countryside and quiet country lanes as we pass through Hertford, Ware, Wareside and then make our final approach to Bishops Stortford to overnight. Cycling distance – approx. 80 miles.

Amsterdam

Day 3: Bishops Stortford to Harwich, overnight ferry to Hook of Holland

We are gifted today with not only a shorter day but one with less elevation than the previous days, so providing we have been making good progress we may get a slightly later start too! We continue our journey east toward Harwich via Great Dunmow and Braintree where we have our first stop of the day. We continue our journey towards Colchester where soon after we will be tucking in to a well needed lunch. Our final push cycling takes us to the port of Harwich where we have the opportunity to freshen up and change and have an evening meal before the ferry crossing to the Hook of Holland later in the evening. Cycling distance – approx. 65 miles.

Day 4: Hook of Holland to Amsterdam

Our ferry docks early in the morning so we hop straight into the saddle – destination today, Amsterdam! Our route today hugs the coastline and winds its way along typical Dutch cycle lanes passing famous landmarks of the country – windmills! Leaving the coast and heading inland towards the capital we eventually reach the heart of the city. Amsterdam is the world's capital of cycling and is a fantastic place to end our European cycling extravaganza! This evening we enjoy a meal together as a group before opting for either a quiet night of relaxation, or the hustle and bustle of the Amsterdam nightlife! Cycling distance – approx. 55 miles.

Day 5: Amsterdam and home

We have a free morning in Amsterdam to do as we wish depending on flight times. We take the transfer to the airport for flights back to Bristol. Upon arrival at Bristol Airport, we take a coach back to the Hospice to be reunited with our bicycles.
