As well as enjoying the beautiful Hospice gardens, you can also attend a number of talks and workshops on the day. These talks are free and included in your entry ticket with the exception of the seasonal pressed flower workshops.
All day: Plants by Ogie Placido. Recently, featured on BBC Gardeners World, Ogie will be selling Carnivorous plants, Cacti and Succulents. He is regularly seen at Somerset Farmers Markets, St. Nicholas Market, Local Flower Shows and Charity events.
- 10:30-10.50 Garden tour with Anneke, Head Gardener at the Hospice
- 11:00-12:00 Exploring the Gardens with Sam Finch. Sam Finch, the National Trust's youngest head gardener at just 25 years old manages two of Somerset's renowned Arts and Crafts gardens: Lytes Cary Manor and Tintinhull Garden. In his talk, Sam will share insights into the history and unique features of the gardens he manages, discuss ongoing restoration projects, and offer a glimpse into the life of a head gardener. Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for garden preservation and the dedication involved in maintaining these beautiful landscapes.
- 12:00-13:30 Seasonal pressed flower workshop with Ffion Morgan. Ffion is a Welsh artist living in Bristol. She makes miniature models and stained glass art. Before moving to Bristol in 2020, she worked in theatre, film, and TV as a scenic painter and prop maker. Since then, she's been creating miniature house portraits and teaching craft workshops, where she combines pressed flowers with stained glass. Make a lovely pressed flower decoration by sealing real flowers between glass. The flowers were picked and pressed by our patients and staff from the Hospice's beautiful garden. - 13.30-14:30 Planting for Bees with Caradoc Doy Caradoc is a professional gardener and passionate plantsman with over 30 years of experience in horticulture. He is well known for his engaging talks and extensive knowledge of garden design, plant history and wildlife-friendly gardening. In this insightful session, Caradoc will share practical advice on how to create bee-friendly gardens, including which plants attract pollinators, how to support bees throughout the seasons, and tips for sustainable gardening. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just getting started, this talk is sure to inspire you to plant with purpose and support our vital bee populations.
