Fundraising Stories

Nic tells us why he's taking part in Walk to Remember this year...

"On 8 October, the day of the Walk to Remember, it will be the 4th anniversary since my wife, Narissa passed away.

"She stayed at the Hospice on and off for around 9 months, and while there we would go on day trips like shopping or to the cinema - the volunteer drivers were fantastic.

"After she passed, I went up to the Hospice every week for counselling, we'd chat in the garden rooms and they always helped me understand everything that was happening. I knew so many of the team there, they'd always greet me and shake my hand when I visited.

"In my eyes, the Hospice was just a place to die, but I found it was so much more than that.

"I took part in the walk last year and will be doing it again this year. I take part with close friends who knew Narissa well, we share stories of my wife as we walk and it's a chance to clear my head and refresh. It'll be a day where we'll get to go out and enjoy the walk, have a nice dinner together, and then light a firework at the exact time that she passed away.

"When I do this walk, it makes me feel connected to my wife."
