Comedian Stephen Merchant backs Room to Care Appeal on visit to hospice

Actor, comedian and writer Stephen Merchant visited St Peter’s Hospice on Thursday 25 January

Stephen spent time with patients and nurses in the Day Hospice, before touring the construction site where the Inpatient Unit is being redeveloped to provide 15 private ensuite rooms.

Stephen, who grew up in Hanham, is spending a few days in his home city on a visit from LA where he now lives and works, having starred alongside Hugh Jackson in the 2017 X-Men film Logan.

His grandmother was cared for by St Peter’s Hospice when it was based at Knowle, and Stephen was joined by his parents Ron and Elaine on his visit to Brentry. He met staff and patients and gave his backing to the hospice’s Room to Care Appeal to help fund the IPU redevelopment.

“Ever since my grandmother was cared for by St Peter’s Hospice 22 years ago, I’ve felt a real connection to everything they do,” said Stephen.

“I’m really pleased to be able to visit, help out the appeal and keep people aware of what the hospice is trying to achieve.”

“Please help us build a 21st century hospice for Bristol.”
