Severnside Support Group provides boost to hospice appeal

Severnside Support Group presented St Peter’s Hospice Room to Care Appeal Coordinator Petra Littlefair with a cheque for £2,000 at Thornbury Golf Club on Friday

The money was raised from various fundraising activities by the group, including £682.50 raised from their summer party and proceeds from their annual Golf Day, held on Friday 6 October.

The Severnside Support Group Golf Day has now been running for more than 20 years, in this time raising more than £20,000 for St Peter’s Hospice, while the group has been active for more than 30 years.

“We are ever so grateful to the Severnside Support Group,” said Petra. “The money they have raised and the support they have provided over the years has made a huge difference to St Peter’s Hospice, and has helped ensure we can continue to provide outstanding care to patients and families throughout Bristol and beyond.”

The £2,000 donated on Monday by the group will go directly to the hospice’s Room to Care Appeal, which was launched by actress Caroline Quentin last Thursday.

The Appeal is to raise the funds needed to complete the redevelopment of the St Peter’s Hospice Inpatient Unit.

The redesign and rebuild of the Inpatient Unit at the hospice’s Brentry site is going to cost £6.53m, and the hospice needs to raise the final £1.53m of this over the next 12 months. The unit is temporarily relocating to a site in Keynsham during this time, while the build is completed.

The new Inpatient Unit will be an upgrade to 15 individual ensuite rooms, allowing the hospice to reach 95% bed occupancy. Over the next 20 years the redeveloped IPU is expected to support 6,250 patients and around 18,500 relatives and friends.
