"I Don't know what to say" (Non Clinical)

Do you have conversations with people experiencing change or loss due to illness?  These situations can be challenging.  If you have ever found it difficult to know what to say, feeling prepared and confident can make a real difference when discussing sensitive issues.

This one-day communication skills course provides an opportunity for anyone working in health and social care in a Non-clinical role for example: receptionists and non-clinical managers) to develop their knowledge, confidence and skills in this area.

Learning outcomes - The participant will be able to:

  • Recognise potential sources of distress in people experiencing loss and change and how that impacts on individuals and their families.
  • Explore how professionals can respond in ways that may be helpful/unhelpful to people in distress.
  • Identify communication stategies and skills that can support people experiencing strong emotions.
  • Develop personal knowledge and skills to enable you to feel more confident when handling difficult and challenging conversations.
