Professional End of Life Care Workshops

Caring for people that are dying, and supporting their families is of huge significance, and a part of many health and social care professionals' practise. These workshops are aimed at registered health and social care professionals to enhance knowledge and understanding of aspects of end of life care and application to practise.

Location

Most sessions take place at St Peter's Hospice, Charlton Road, Brentry, BS10 6NL but we also run some online sessions via Zoom as indicated in the available dates sections below.

Cost

£50 per person, per workshop from the start of September 2023

Timings

Each session runs 13.30 - 16.30

Holding hands

Advance Care Planning (ACP)

Studies sadly indicate that people often receive end-of-life care that is inconsistent with their wishes, or their wishes are not known. This workshop aims to support a better understanding of advance care planning and its application to practise.

Course content

  • The impact of ACP
  • When and how to approach ACP conversations
  • Cultural and spiritual considerations
  • ACP documentation (including ReSPECT) and legal frameworks

The Grief Experience

Understanding grief is significant in supporting individuals and families in end of life care. This workshop aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the experience of grief.

Dementia and End of Life Care

Dementia is a progressive disease. This workshop for registered professionals aims to support you caring for a person with dementia as they approach the end of life.

  • The principles of person centred care and its importance when caring for a person with dementia
  • Recognising when a person with dementia is approaching the end of life
  • The challenges and importance of Advance Care Planning
