Syringe Pump Training

Both Introduction to Syringe Pump and Advanced Syringe Pump training are delivered at St Peter's Hospice.  We also offer bespoke Syringe Pump Training which can be delivered within your organisation (for up to 12 attendees).  

Introduction to Syringe Pumps

This session is aimed at clinical staff with limited knowledge or experience of syringe pumps in practice. It offers and opportunity to develop or refresh knowledge and confidence in the use of syringe pumps in end of life care.

The programme includes:

  • Indications for use of a Syringe Pump in end of life care
  • Choosing the right needle for individual patients
  • Practical demonstration/familiarisation of equipment (to include differences between syringe pumps)
  • Simple conversions from oral to subcutaneous Opioids

Advanced Syringe Pump Training

This session is aimed at clinical staff with extensive experience of Syringe Pumps in practice. It offers an opportunity to further develop knowledge and understanding of complex issues.

The programme includes:

  • Complex management/troubleshooting
  • Pharmacology - drug combinations, compatibility and interactions
  • Practicalities of drug administration
  • Drug conversions and calculations
