Sandie Foxall-SmithBristol’s St Peter’s Hospice is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Chief Executive Sandie Foxall-Smith.

Mrs Foxall-Smith joins the city’s hospice from her previous role as Director of Clinics for Circle Health, and takes over from Malcolm Fellowes-Freeman who is leaving St Peter’s after over twelve years in the post.

Mrs Foxall-Smith has worked for some time in Bristol, and was a General Manager for Spire Healthcare (formerly BUPA Hospitals), managing their BUPA Hospital in Bristol from 1997 to 2007.

Sandie said, “I’m delighted to be joining St Peter’s Hospice at such an exciting time. This year the hospice is celebrating thirty years of caring in Bristol and over the past three decades it has become a really significant organisation in the city.”

“I know St Peter’s has a very special place in many people’s hearts in the city and it is my wish that we help many more local families who desperately need our unique hospice care.”

St Peter’s Hospice is Bristol’s hospice and every year provides specialised palliative care to over 1,700 patients and support to 5,000 family members and children. All of its patient services are free.

St Peter’s provides a range of patient services at its two Hospices at Brentry and Knowle, and also delivers care and support in local homes through its Hospice at Home and Community Nurse Specialist teams.

St Peter’s Hospice now has over 250 staff working across the charity along with nearly 2000 volunteers.

Sandie added, “I am looking forward to working with the staff, volunteers and supporters and building on all of the fantastic growth that has been lead by my predecessor Malcolm Fellowes-Freeman.”

St Peter’s Hospice Chairman Keith Bonham paid tribute to the outgoing Chief Executive, “Malcolm has been a marvellous Chief Executive for a Chairman to have. He has seen us through a period of significant growth, a doubling of our bed numbers, doubling of volunteers and doubling of shops. We really have gone from strength to strength.”

Keith added, “We are delighted to welcome Sandie to St Peter’s. There are certainly challenges ahead for the hospice and our new Chief Executive will have plenty to keep her busy. Sandie is a well known figure in Bristol and I am delighted to see her back in the city leading a great charity.”

Prior to Spire Healthcare, Mrs. Foxall-Smith ran her own consulting company, Advantec Consultancy Limited, advising a variety of clients, including leading pharmaceutical companies, on how to implement strategic planning and facilitate operational change.

Her other healthcare marketing include serving as the General Sales Manager for UK & Ireland for Lundbeck Ltd., and as the National Sales & Marketing Manager for UK & Ireland for Allergan Pharmaceuticals.

Mrs. Foxall-Smith has also been appointed by HRH Prince of Wales to be his Ambassador for the West of England and is a Trustee of Alderman Stevens charity and a governor of Badminton School.
