Bristol RFC players touch down at St Peter's Hospice

Mariano Sambucetti, James Phillips and Redford Pennycook from Bristol RFC paid a surprise visit to supporter Glenn Walker whilst he was receiving care at St Peter’s Hospice in Brentry last week.

The players took time out from training to visit Glenn (63) from Stockwood who said: “I have been a supporter of BRFC for years and have a season ticket, I used to play front row in the scrum for the Atomic Energy Authority in the Oxford League. It was a real treat to meet some of the team”

Glenn’s daughters Vanessa Roberts and Fiona Sage said: “we’re so grateful to the players for taking the time to come and meet dad. He has been in Brentry for a few days having his symptoms stabilized and it was such a lovely surprise for him to meet the players and talk rugby, they even brought him in a signed ball which he was thrilled with. St Peter’s Hospice have been involved with dad’s care for a long time and given support to both him and the rest of the family. Our Community nurse has visited him at home regularly and liaised with our GP so that everyone has been kept in the loop. We have had nothing but kindness and support and they have always been there when we needed them.”

Marianno Sambucetti (who plays Lock for Bristol RFC and has had 12 caps for his home country – Argentina) said: “Nobody really knows what a hospice does until they experience their specialised care and support first hand. Everyone in the city will know someone who has been affected by cancer so we were delighted to be able to come and meet one of our supporters and his family to see how St Peter’s has been helping them.”
